Ulises Platas is an artist who plunges into abstract expressionism with visceral force. His work blends urban markings, unconscious symbols, and echoes of Zapotec culture to create an intense, chaotic, and deeply human visual language.
On his canvases, altered faces, twisted flowers, shamans, devils, nostalgic cities, and psychic creatures coexist, emerging through rough strokes, vibrant colors, and textures reminiscent of Art Brut and the spirit of Basquiat.
His style is defined by explosive brushstrokes, sharp contrasts, and color palettes that range from earthy tones and blacks to saturated blues, pinks, and reds. Altogether, his work builds an abrupt, powerful, and captivating aesthetic—where the absurd, the dreamlike, and the primitive collide to reveal what lies deep within the unconscious.
